Accessibility

1. Our commitment

Saltwind Atlas is committed to making this website usable by as many people as possible, regardless of how they access the web. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. This is an ongoing effort, not a box we tick once.

This page describes the measures we have taken, where we are still working, and how you can report an issue if something is not working for you.

2. Conformance target

Our target is WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance across all pages of the site. This includes the homepage, thank-you page, and all four legal pages.

3. Measures taken

To support accessibility, we have built the site with the following in mind:

  • Semantic HTML — pages use proper heading hierarchy, landmark elements (<header>, <main>, <footer>, <nav>), and native form elements throughout.
  • Keyboard navigation — all interactive elements (links, buttons, form inputs, FAQ toggles) are reachable and operable by keyboard. Focus indicators are visible.
  • Colour contrast — text and interactive elements are designed to a minimum 4.5:1 contrast ratio against their backgrounds. The primary text colour (#251C2B on a light background) exceeds this by a significant margin.
  • Reduced-motion support — the site does not use CSS animations; hover transitions are under 0.4 seconds and do not affect layout. No content depends on motion to be understood.
  • Descriptive alternative text — all content images include meaningful alt attributes describing the subject rather than restating a filename.
  • Labelled form fields — every input in the contact form has a visible label with a matching for attribute. Required fields are marked visually and with screen-reader-friendly text.
  • ARIA attributes — used where native HTML semantics are insufficient, including aria-label on icon-only buttons, aria-expanded on the mobile navigation toggle, and aria-live on dynamic feedback messages.
  • Skip to content — the sticky header is kept minimal so keyboard users reach the main content quickly. We are considering adding a visible skip link and will add one in an upcoming update.

4. Known limitations

We are aware of the following areas that are not yet fully resolved:

  • The Google Maps iframe embedded on the homepage is a third-party component. Keyboard navigation within the map is controlled by Google and is beyond our direct influence. A text address is always visible alongside the map for users who cannot interact with it.
  • Some content images sourced from Lorem Picsum at development time are replaced with real photographs during deployment. We review alt text at that stage, but a small number of images may temporarily carry generic descriptions.
